Tucked away in the historic San Pa Khoi trading area of Chiang Mai, Building A brings new life to a once-forgotten structure. This thoughtfully restored space blends modern design with a deep respect for the city’s layered past, creating a unique spot where old Chiang Mai meets contemporary culture. With a curated, vintage-meets-industrial feel and a soft, earthy palette, it’s the kind of place where architecture lovers and cafe hoppers alike find common ground.

Building A shares its space with the enticing aromas of Me&Bacon, a popular Chiang Mai brunch spot celebrated for its signature thick-cut bacon.
The Quiet Revival of Anusarn
A Landmark Reimagined
Building A takes its name from the former Anusarn Department Store—a vintage Chiang Mai landmark completed in 1934. Over the decades, this two-storey site, with its distinctive row of shophouses along Charoen Mueang Road, has served many purposes: from a general store and a foreign mining office to a canoe club and even a garage. Nearly a century on, the Colonial-influenced Anusarn Building is now home to a lively mix of restaurants and businesses spread across both floors.

A Secret Entrance, If You Know Where to Look
The street entrance to Building A has the air of a secret shared between those who know where to look. It’s easy to miss—just look for the tangle of overhead wires between two weathered concrete utility poles and then a scattering of signs pointing the way. Head inside down the corridor, by a quirky museum of rowing boats and oars, and take the stairs up to the second floor. There’s also an entrance at the rear of the building, off a small parking area.

Where the Past Meets the Now: Building A
Inside Building A, the past meets the present in a thoughtfully styled space that pays quiet tribute to its heritage while embracing contemporary flair. The design plays with contrast—a curated mix of retro and modern elements, with freestanding furniture and a semi-freestanding mirrored bar setting the tone.

Chairs are a playful ensemble: plastic and plywood mid-century modern seats in bold colours (some on wheels), striking blue velvet armchairs, and even a Bauhaus Wassily Lounge chair in tubular steel and leather. At the heart of it all, a sculptural, curved stainless steel bench adds a bold, futuristic edge. Vintage pieces mingle with rustic cement walls, shuttered windows, hardwood floors, and timber accents—creating an industrial-chic vibe that feels both lived-in and fresh.

Building A: Sips with Style & Sweet Treats
Building A serves up a stylish and varied drinks menu, blending classic coffee shop staples with creative signature twists. Coffee lovers can expect everything from a rich, dark-roast Americano to a smooth house-blend Latte, alongside favourites like the Mocha, Flat White, and Caramel Macchiato.

For non-coffee drinkers, there’s plenty on offer too—premium Matcha Lattes, Honey Matcha, rich Cocoa, and a fun selection of flavoured milks, from rose to vanilla and pink milk. Tea fans will find Thai Tea, English Breakfast, and delicate White Tea, while Sodas like peach, lychee, and grapefruit add a refreshing sparkle.
The real standouts, though, are the house specials: the 2477 Dirty Coffee and Matcha Dirty both bring a bold, creamy kick, while the Anusarn—an Americano with a bright hit of yuzu—nods to the building’s heritage. Other signatures include the Black Coconut, Yuzu Premium Matcha, and Coconut Latte, offering inventive takes that match the venue’s cool, modern edge.
Almond, Oat, and Soy milk are available as dairy-free alternatives for a small extra fee.

For something sweet, Building A offers a changing line-up of homemade treats—like zesty Orange Cheesecake, rich Tiramisu, gooey Banoffee Pie, Toffee cake, and the ever-popular Brookie (a brownie-cookie hybrid).
Me&Bacon: The Art of Thick-Cut Bacon & Perfect Eggs
For those after a more substantial bite, Me&Bacon’s Nawarat branch occupies the room at the top of the stairs. The cafe’s signature yellow and orange branding dots the space, with a playful mix of curved tables, stools, and chairs adding to the charm. Order your food at the counter, pick up a numbered flag, and then pop next door into Building A to order your drinks.

Me&Bacon puts a creative spin on comfort food, with a brunch menu built around thick-cut bacon, silky eggs, and housemade sourdough. Favourites include the Big Bacon & Silky Eggs, Ham & Cheese Sourdough Sandwich, and the sweet-meets-savoury Big Bacon & Sunny Egg Waffle.
Their Sous Vide Egg Benedict comes with your choice of waffle or sourdough and toppings like honey bacon, smoked salmon, or prosciutto. Open-faced sourdoughs such as Salmon & Eggs and Paris Ham & Mozzarella offer lighter, flavour-packed options.

For something heartier, pastas like Spicy Tomato Cream Prawns, Squid in White Wine & Lemon Oil, and Truffle & Cream balance richness with bold ingredients.
Don’t miss dessert—standouts include the Honey Fig Peach Waffle, Many Bananas Waffle, and Choux & Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.

It’s an inventive, satisfying menu that nails the brunch brief with flair.
