Nestled on a quiet street in the Jed Yod neighbourhood, Café Arte offers a delightful escape that blends European elegance with relaxed Chiang Mai vibes. Passing by outside of the cafe’s opening times, you might easily mistake it for a private property—it’s a beautiful house set in a vast open gravel courtyard, which many would consider a dream home. Fortunately, this charming cafe is open to the public six days a week. And for those seeking a longer stay, the cafe also operates as a guest house.

European Elegance at Café Arte
Entering the elegant courtyard, with the sound of gravel crunching underfoot, Café Arte is reminiscent of a French country house. Shaded by mature trees, with a small water fountain at the centre, it makes for a welcoming entrance. The European feel continues inside, where chandeliers and stylish fans hang from the exposed wooden beam ceiling. An eclectic mix of wooden tables and chairs, and antique armchairs adorn the interior, which wraps around a wooden staircase leading up to the guest house rooms. The tiled cobblestone floor adds to the country charm.

The indoor area is tastefully decorated with a small variety of artwork and antique-style furniture. Multiple windows flood the space with natural light, combined with the warm tones give it a homey feel, a great place to curl up with a good book and while away the hours.

Eclectic music from a vintage stereo cabinet enhances the interior ambience, featuring nostalgic tunes from French classics to traditional Thai music, folk and country. Outside, there’s a mix of seating spread around the courtyard and front terrace, perfect for alfresco dining in Café Arte’s country garden.
A Master At Work
Taking centre stage at his coffee station, the calm and mild-mannered cafe owner spends his day meticulously crafting coffee and other drink creations for your delight. It’s fascinating to watch him at work. The menu includes hot and iced coffees (their signature Dirty coffee is not to be missed), a selection of teas, hot chocolate, and matcha lattes. Cold drinks feature iced Thai tea, peach tea, soda, and a choice of virgin mojitos! Free water is available at the end of the counter.

Chalkboard Delights
Beyond beverages, Café Arte offers a delightful selection of light meals and savoury dishes on their chalkboard menu. Options include the Arte Breakfast with bacon and eggs, Scrambled Eggs & Toast, and Croissant Ham & Cheese. There’s also a choice of sandwiches, including Arte’s signature Croque Monsieur. For a sweet treat, try their delectable Roti & Banana with peanut butter, almonds, and raisins. And if that’s not enough, you’ll find further cake and pastry delights in their glass-fronted wooden cabinet… the homemade apple pie is popular choice.

If you’re unable to decide, the super-friendly staff are there to help and recommend something suitable from the menu. Just so you know, items from the chalkboard menu are available until 11.00 am only.
Strike a Pose at the Scenic Café Arte
Given the quaintness and beautiful setting of Café Arte, it’s become a popular destination for taking photos. So don’t be surprised if you witness the odd social media photo shoot or two!
