Tucked away on a quiet street in downtown Nimman, FRAN’S Chiang Mai brings its Bangkok-born, European-inspired all-day dining concept north. Its light-filled, greenhouse-style interior and relaxed alfresco terraces attract a steady crowd, complementing an all-day menu that spans morning staples through to heartier lunch and dinner plates, alongside a well-rounded drinks list — though, true to its Bangkok roots, prices sit above the typical Chiang Mai cafe bracket.

Brand-Led Design in a Leafy Setting at FRAN’S Chiang Mai
At the entrance, elegant chestnut-toned signage makes an immediate impression. The clean, confident typography stands out against warm brickwork and dense greenery, while above the doorway the bold FRAN’S lettering anchors the facade, clearly marking its presence within the leafy courtyard.

The space opens into a beautifully landscaped tropical courtyard, shared with fellow Bangkok brand ThongSmith (and its dessert-focused sibling, ThongSweet), hinting at the wider group behind FRAN’S. The leafy setting feels thoughtfully curated — a soft, green buffer from urban Nimman — and immediately establishes a calm, refined atmosphere that feels quietly upscale.
Architecturally, the exterior leans heavily into rich natural materials. Deep green window frames wrap around expansive glass panels, their colour echoing the surrounding foliage and giving the facade a refined, almost colonial feel. Warm, honey-toned timber columns and beams frame the structure and extend outward into a covered alfresco deck, creating a fluid transition between building and garden.

This sheltered outdoor terrace runs the full length of the frontage, furnished with substantial wooden tables and cushioned sofa seating. Decking boards and exposed rafters reinforce the timber palette, while overhead fans keep the space comfortable. It’s not just a token terrace — more a considered extension of the interior, shaded, spacious and genuinely inviting.
Inside: Tropical-Modern with an Industrial Edge
FRAN’S Chiang Mai carries its deep green and warm timber palette indoors, creating a cohesive and carefully curated space.
High ceilings and generous proportions lend the room an airy European sensibility — something of a greenhouse-meets-European-bistro aesthetic — where natural light, garden-facing windows and quiet symmetry sit comfortably alongside brasserie-style order. Large green-framed windows allow daylight to pour in, softening the space and maintaining a visual connection to the surrounding greenery. Timber columns and ceiling beams add warmth without weight, their honeyed tones offset by lighter upholstery and neutral finishes so the space never drifts into rustic territory.

Seating is generous and varied: substantial, warm-toned timber tables — thickly cut with clean, squared edges and sturdy pedestal bases — are paired with cushioned banquettes and supportive dining chairs. Spaced with plenty of breathing room, the layout feels orderly and relaxed rather than crowded, reinforcing the room’s calm, composed atmosphere. Underfoot, terracotta brick tiles visually anchor key seating areas, while smooth concrete-style pathways guide movement through the room.

Light, Height & Architectural Contrast
Overhead, a long skylight runs the length of the roof, drawing natural light deep into the dining room and strengthening that greenhouse-like quality. At certain times of day, however, direct sun can narrow your choice of seating, with a few tables catching more light than others. In contrast, exposed industrial air-conditioning ducts stretch across the ceiling — a deliberate contemporary counterpoint to the warmth of timber and brick below, lending the interior a subtle urban edge.
A Bread-Led Welcome
A small retail-style bakery display near the entrance showcases loaves and packaged goods, reinforcing FRAN’S bread-focused identity. Adjacent to it, a more relaxed, island-style seating area — with high stools and some window seating — creates a slightly less formal space, offering an easy spot for coffee or a lighter bite away from the main dining room.

Overall, the interior feels thoughtfully layered: tropical-modern at its core, warmed by natural wood and brick, yet sharpened by industrial ceiling details and clean-lined furniture.
Food & Drink at FRAN’S Chiang Mai
Comfort, Greens and Signature Plates
FRAN’S delivers a polished, all-day menu that moves easily between wholesome and indulgent, guided by its “Brunch & Greens” ethos of fresh, thoughtfully sourced ingredients. There’s plenty of choice without it feeling overwhelming — and several standout dishes quickly become clear favourites.

The ever popular Velvet Egg & Bacon sits at the centre: cloud-soft eggs folded onto sourdough, paired with thick-cut bacon glazed in maple syrup for a clean sweet–savoury hit. Elsewhere, Eggs Benedict (with salmon gravlax or ham) is a dependable favourite, while Steak & Eggs and the brioche-heavy Monte Cristo lean heartier. Pancakes range from red fruits to bacon-topped stacks, alongside playful silver dollar banana versions. Prefer control? Build your own breakfast from sourdough, pancakes or an English muffin, adding proteins and sides to suit.

Health-forward options are given equal weight. Acai and yoghurt-based bowls sit comfortably beside smoothies and cold-pressed juices, offering lighter, fruit-led alternatives that balance freshness with flavour.

From Brunch To All-Day Dining
The menu stretches well beyond morning territory. Pastas, soups and salads sit alongside more substantial specials such as Grilled Wagyu Flank and Salt Baked Sea Bream, reinforcing its all-day positioning. Desserts — Sticky Date Pudding, Apple & Berries Crumble and Caramel Chocolate Tarte — provide a suitably comforting finish.
Fresh Baked Daily
Bread underpins much of the menu, thanks to FRAN’S in-house bakery. Sourdough, brioche, English muffins and bagels are baked daily, forming the backbone of dishes from Bagel & Lox to open-faced plates.

The wood-fired flatbread, served with dips ranging from parma ham & mascarpone to truffle burrata or blue cheese with figs and honeycomb, is a notable highlight, offering something a little different from the usual brunch repertoire.
From Brew Bar to Cold-Pressed Juices
FRAN’S drinks offering is as carefully considered as its food — broad enough for a quick coffee or juice stop, yet polished enough to suit a long lunch that stretches into wine.

Coffee anchors the offering, spanning espresso classics to more playful signatures such as the Iced Yuzu Americano, Dirty Coffee and Coconut Coffee. A choice of light, medium, seasonal and decaf beans keeps things flexible, while the dedicated Brew Bar (slow bar) elevates the experience with expressive single origins from Colombia, Ethiopia and Indonesia. It’s a level of coffee detail more often associated with speciality houses than all-day dining spots.
Almond and oat milk are available across all milk-based drinks, whether you’re ordering coffee, matcha or premium chocolate.

Beyond Coffee: Teas, Juices & Light Sips
Non-coffee options hold their own. Thai tea latte, matcha variations and a concise tea list — from green and oolong to herbal infusions — provide gentler alternatives.
Smoothies and cold-pressed juices lean into the “Brunch & Greens” philosophy, with blends like Avocado & Coconut, Kale & Apple and Heart Beet offering something lighter and more refreshing.

Overall, the menu strikes a confident balance: speciality coffee depth on one side, feel-good juices and smoothies on the other — with wine and beer available during Thailand’s permitted alcohol hours for those settling in beyond brunch.
From Bangkok to Chiang Mai
The Team Behind FRAN’S

FRAN’S began as a collaboration between three established figures in Thailand’s contemporary dining scene. Launched in 2022, the project brought together Atchara “Pla” Burarak, founder of the Iberry Group, the team behind ThongSmith, and chef Chalee (Charlie) Kader.
The idea was to introduce a polished, European-leaning all-day brunch format — centred on hearty classics, house-made breads and quality ingredients — to Bangkok’s Sathorn district, with Kader shaping the menu and culinary direction. The success of the original Bangkok location has since led to expansion, including the Chiang Mai outpost that opened in early 2025, carrying the same design-led all-day concept into the Nimman neighbourhood.
A Higher-End Brunch Option at FRAN’S Chiang Mai
FRAN’S sits at the higher end of Chiang Mai’s brunch spectrum, with most mains starting from around 300 baht. While pricing is in line with — and in some cases slightly below — its Bangkok counterpart, it does place the restaurant above the city’s typical cafe bracket. Given the expansive fit-out, full-service format and polished presentation, it feels positioned closer to a brunch brasserie than a casual cafe. This is the kind of place you come for the setting as much as the plate — and that’s reflected in the pricing.
